In an office for example, despite email, paper is still used to send invoices in the post. Depending on the industry and business type, paper is necessary for the company to operate and/or considered to be needed. Also, the operations of a business are strongly influenced by the attitudes and demands of consumers and customers.
Environmental policies differ between each company; it can include business objectives from reducing paper consumption to reducing electricity consumption. All businesses though have an obligation to sort all waste produced on the premises, if this cannot be done through local waste streams a private contractor is required. The type of waste produced from a business will be different to household waste. Commercial waste can include and be sorted into categories by industry and sector types, such as the medical industry producing biohazardous waste.
