The time to test your packaging supplier is before peak orders land, not while they’re stacking up on the bench. Once volumes climb, a missed delivery or an out-of-stock box size costs you orders you can’t get back.
With Black Friday 2026 falling on 27th November, there’s still time to ask the right questions. This guide is for buyers, operations managers and business owners who want a reliable partner through peak. We use RAJA’s own published figures as a worked example, so you can see what good evidence looks like.
In this article, we’ll cover:
- How to check whether a supplier has a large network behind it
- What stock availability figure to ask for, and why it matters more than range size
- Which delivery cut-offs and options make the biggest difference at peak
- Why a short UK and EU supply chain lowers your risk
- Which certifications you can download and verify yourself
1. Is your packaging supplier backed by a large network?
A supplier backed by a large group has more stock, more warehouse space and more fallback routes when demand spikes. Smaller independents can offer excellent service, but ask what happens when their only warehouse runs short in December.
RAJA UK is part of the RAJA Group, which supplies 19 European countries and serves 2 million customers. The group runs 17 distribution centres with 390,000 m² of warehouse space, and it’s been supplying businesses since way back in 1954.
This means one supplier relationship can cover more than one site or country. For multi-site businesses, an international account manager can set up a single contract across several countries, with ordering and invoicing handled through e-business tools.
If you already buy from us, you’ll now see the RAJA name on invoices, delivery notes and emails. RAJAPACK UK is now RAJA UK, and your account, pricing and delivery terms stay the same. For more information on this, read our press release.

2. How much of the range is in stock?
Ask for an in-stock percentage, not a product count. A catalogue of thousands of lines won’t help you if the box size you use most is on back order.
RAJA aims to keep 99% of products in stock at any one time, across a range of more than 5,000 products. Our UK warehouse has over 267,000 sq ft of storage, so we can hold almost every line in bulk.
This means you don’t need to stockpile packaging in your own building before peak. You can order closer to the point of use and keep your floor space for the products you’re selling. Our guide to peak inventory planning covers how to set those stock levels when demand is hard to forecast.
3. What are the delivery cut-offs, and can deliveries flex?
Ask for the order cut-off time and what happens to orders placed after it. A late cut-off gives your team most of the working day to spot a shortfall and still get stock the next morning.
RAJA offers next-day delivery on UK mainland orders placed before 4pm. It’s free on orders of £200 or more (excluding VAT), and £9.49 (excluding VAT) below that. Check the small print with any supplier: our Friday orders placed before 4pm arrive on Monday, and parts of Scotland, Northern Ireland and offshore UK need three to five days.
At peak, flexibility matters as much as speed. These are the delivery options to ask any packaging supplier about:
- Staggered deliveries, so a large order arrives in stages as you need it
- Nominated day delivery, so stock turns up when someone’s on site to receive it
- Multi-site delivery, so each warehouse or branch gets its own drop
RAJA offers them all, and nominated day delivery costs nothing extra. Staggered deliveries are the closest thing to contingency stock without the storage bill: you commit to the volume now and receive it in stages. Our article on stockouts at peak sets out what running short really costs.
4. Where does your supplier source its packaging?
A supply chain that starts close to home is less exposed to shipping delays and port congestion during peak. Ask a supplier where its products are made, not just where its warehouse is.
We source 99% of the RAJA range from the UK and EU, through a network of manufacturers selected mainly in the UK and Europe. Combined with the RAJA Group’s buying power, that keeps prices competitive without relying on long-haul freight.
For your peak plan, this means fewer moving parts between the factory and your despatch bench. Replenishment is easier to predict when a box is made a few hundred miles away, not a few thousand.
5. Which certifications should a packaging supplier hold?
Ask for certificates you can download and check, not logos on a slide. Independent certification shows a supplier’s stock control, delivery and service have been audited against a recognised standard.
RAJA UK holds four ISO certifications, all awarded by SOCOTEC:
- ISO 9001:2015 for quality management
- ISO 14001:2015 for environmental management
- ISO 45001:2018 for occupational health and safety
- ISO 27001:2022 for information security
These audits cover the processes that affect you directly, including the packaging advice we give, the stock we hold and how we deliver your order. Each certificate is free to download from our website.
For sustainability, look for an independent rating rather than a self-declared promise. RAJA UK holds an EcoVadis Gold rating, placing it in the top 5% of companies assessed for sustainability. If your business reports on supplier sustainability, that’s a credential with real clout.
Get your packaging supplier checks done before Black Friday
Run these five checks this week, while there’s still time to add a second source before Black Friday. That way, you can have confidence in your chosen supplier.
Start with the two questions that catch most problems: what share of the range is in stock today, and what’s the latest you can order for next-day delivery? If the answers are vague, that tells you what you need to know.

Key takeaways
- Ask a packaging supplier for its in-stock percentage, not its product count, because a large range means little if your most-used line is on back order.
- RAJA aims to keep 99% of its range of more than 5,000 products in stock, held across over 267,000 sq ft of UK storage.
- RAJA delivers next day on UK mainland orders placed before 4pm, free on orders of £200 or more excluding VAT.
- Staggered deliveries let you commit to peak volumes now without paying to store all of that stock on site.
- Independent certifications, such as ISO 9001:2015 and an EcoVadis Gold rating, give you evidence you can download and verify yourself.
FAQ: Choosing a packaging supplier
Is there a lower delivery threshold for first-time customers?
Yes. Your first order with RAJA ships free when you spend £125 or more excluding VAT, against £200 for existing customers.
Can I get a morning or Saturday delivery?
Yes. You can upgrade to next-day delivery before 10:30am or a Saturday morning delivery by calling 0800 542 44 28 for a quote.
Can I collect an order instead of having it delivered?
Yes. You can collect orders between 12:00 and 16:00, Monday to Friday, if you book the collection with the sales team in advance.
Do packaging orders arrive on pallets?
Bulk orders usually arrive on pallets. If you can’t accept a pallet, add ‘Pallets can’t be accepted’ to the delivery comments when you order.
What do I need for deliveries to Northern Ireland?
RAJA needs your VAT number and EORI number before it can process a business order to Northern Ireland, under the Windsor Framework. Allow three to five days for delivery.
Will the driver deliver to an upper floor?
No. RAJA delivers to the kerbside or ground floor only, so plan for someone to move stock to basements or upper floors.
