3M 904 ATG tape is the original adhesive transfer tape in the 3M Scotch ATG range, for photo mounting, picture framing, graphic arts and small product assembly where a thin, permanent, invisible adhesive layer is needed. This 3M transfer tape uses an acrylic adhesive which is coated onto a paper liner and transfers cleanly to when applied with a 700ATG dispenser, leaving no carrier film. UV-stable and resistant to solvent and chemical exposure. Available in 12mm x 44m and 19mm x 25m on 25mm cores. Shelf life is 18 months from manufacture.

Where does 3M 904 ATG tape work best?
3M adhesive transfer tape is a standard ATG grade for photo mounting, framing and graphic arts applications where a clean, permanent bond with no carrier film in the joint required.
- Photo mounting, picture framing and artwork presentation where an invisible adhesive bond with no carrier layer between the print and its backing is essential.
- Graphic arts and print finishing: bonding paper, card, fabric, leather, plastic, wood and glass components in display, packaging design and product assembly work.
- Small component and nameplate assembly where accurate adhesive placement from the ATG dispenser is faster and cleaner than double-sided tape or liquid adhesive.
- Operations already running the 700ATG dispenser system that need the established 904 grade alongside the newer 924 and 969 options.
Not suitable for
- Textured, flexible or low-energy surfaces where high tack is needed.
- Carton sealing: adhesive transfer tape is a precision bonding product, not a box-sealing tape.
- Structural or load-bearing bonding: use 3M VHB double-sided foam tape for high-load industrial bonding applications.
How to use
The 3M 904 ATG tape uses the same 25mm core and 700ATG dispenser as the 924 and 969 grades and the application technique is the same.
- Load the 700ATG dispenser: Fit the 25mm core roll into the 700ATG dispenser; the 25mm core is specific to the ATG system and isn’t compatible with standard 76mm dispensers.
- Prepare both surfaces: Clean the bonding surfaces thoroughly; acrylic adhesive bonds permanently on most surfaces and contamination at the bond interface cannot be corrected after application.
- Apply the adhesive: Run the dispenser along the surface in a single stroke; the paper liner feeds back through the dispenser as the adhesive transfers to the surface.
- Bond and press: Position accurately before contact and press firmly across the full bonded area; acrylic adhesive builds its rated bond strength over 24 to 72 hours.
- Store correctly: Store at 15–25°C, maximum 65% relative humidity. Shelf life is 18 months from manufacture.
