100% biodegradable and compostable

Compostable mailers designed to ship clothing and other non-fragile e-commerce goods in an ivory-white, semi-opaque film made from potato starch. The film is tearproof and waterproof, protecting parcels from rain and handling in transit, while the semi-opaque finish keeps contents discreet. A fold-down flap carries an address box and a safety warning notice, giving a clear area to write customer details. The peel and seal strip of these biodegradable mailing bags form a semi-permanent seal on contact; leaving sealed parcels at room temperature for a few hours strengthens the bond before storage. These compostable mailers disintegrate in 12 weeks and then biodegrades in under 6 months. With industrial composting, the material will disintegrate into pieces smaller than 2mm x 2mm after 12 weeks. After 6 months, the compostable mailer bags will biodegrade into a combination of carbon dioxide (CO2), water, and biomass. For your customers, these compostable mailers are still suitable for domestic composting. However, the disintegration time will vary and will take longer than industrial compost.

The film conforms to EN13432 for industrial composting.

Sold in packs of 200, priced per pack, in three sizes.

Where do compostable mailers work best?

Compostable mailers suit e-commerce and fulfilment operations that want a lower-impact end-of-life route than a conventional plastic mailing bag.

  • Clothing and soft goods, where a flexible tearproof and waterproof bag protects contents from rain and handling.
  • Subscription and repeat orders, where the peel and seal strip packs quickly without separate tape.
  • Customer deliveries that need a discreet finish, where the semi-opaque film limits visibility of the contents.
  • Composting-focused packaging policies, where a bag for domestic and industrial composting supports clear disposal messaging.

Not for

  • Recycling streams. These biodegradable mailing bags aren't suitable for recycling; where composting is unavailable, dispose of them with general waste.
  • Rigid, fragile or crush-sensitive products. Use a postal box where the item needs impact resistance.
  • Long storage of unused stock outdoors. Keep unused bags in normal indoor conditions to protect seal performance.

Choose the right mailing bag

Compostable mailer bags are ideal when the priority is a compostable end-of-life route for flexible goods.

  • Choose compostable mailing bags for clothing, textiles and other non-fragile orders, when eco-responsible disposal is needed.
  • Choose grey mailing bags when you want a recyclable plastic bag rather than a compostable one.
  • Choose ecommerce packaging bags with block base when you want a kerbside-recyclable paper bag.
  • Choose black mailing bags when you want a recycled, fully opaque plastic bag.

FAQs

Can customers home-compost these bags?

Yes. They suit domestic composting, though breakdown takes longer than in industrial conditions.

What does EN13432 mean?

It is the industrial composting standard; the bags meet criteria such as strict limits on toxic elements and no adverse effect on compost quality.

Are the bags see-through?

They're white and semi-opaque, reducing visibility of the contents while looking softer than a fully opaque mailer.

Do I need tape to close them?

No. Each bag has an integral peel and seal strip, so parcels close without separate tape.

What if composting isn't available?

Don't put them in recycling. Where composting facilities aren't available, dispose of the bag with general waste.

Also useful

  • Envelopes and mailing bags for comparing compostable, paper and plastic mailers by product.
  • Labels for delivery details alongside the printed address box.
  • Cardboard boxes for orders that need a rigid pack instead of a flexible mailer.
