Heavy-duty packing tape built for secure sealing of large, high-weight parcels

3M™ 375e tape is the thickest polypropylene tape in the 3M™ Scotch® range at 50 micron, for carton sealing operations where maximum film strength and resistance to splitting under load are the priority. The hot melt rubber adhesive grips immediately on contact on paper and board. Available in brown and transparent in 50mm, 48mm or 75mm widths on 66m rolls on a 76mm core. 3M™ 375e tears by hand or runs from a dispenser. Shelf life is 18 months from manufacture. Suitable for parcels over 30kg.

Sold in packs, priced per roll.

Where does 3M™375e tape work best?

  • Carton sealing in environments where abrasion, sharp board edges or rough handling through multiple freight stages would split a thinner polypropylene tape.
  • Operations running demanding or variable carton board grades that want the extra confidence of a higher-micron tape, built to 3M™ specifications.
  • Sites requiring multiple width options from the same tape grade, with consistent film and adhesive specification across both.
  • Warehouses and despatch operations already standardised on hot melt rubber adhesive for fast, firm initial grab on contact.

Not suitable for

  • Operations requiring kerbside recyclability: use paper parcel tape where recyclability is required.
  • Machine application: this tape is rated for hand and dispenser use; for automated case-sealing machines use 3M Scotch 371 Machine Tape.

How to use

Hot melt rubber adhesive grips immediately on contact; the 50 micron film is stiffer than lighter polypropylene grades, so full-length firm pressure after application matters more on this tape.

  • Clean the surface: wipe dust and moisture from the carton flap; hot melt rubber bonds strongly on contact but surface contamination prevents full adhesive contact on the first pass.
  • Tear or cut to length: the 50 micron backing tears cleanly by hand at a sharp angle; for consistent lengths a pistol grip dispenser fitted with a 76mm core is faster on high-volume lines.
  • Seal with a 50mm overlap: apply across the carton closure seam with at least 50mm overlap onto each carton face; run from edge to edge without gaps.
  • Press firmly along the full length: run a thumb or roller along the tape; the stiffer film does not conform to minor surface irregularities as readily as lighter grades, so deliberate full-length pressure is needed at the flap edges.
  • Store correctly: store at 15–25°C, maximum 65% relative humidity. Shelf life is 18 months from manufacture.

Choose the right tape

  • Choose this 3M™ Scotch® 375 tape when the thickest polypropylene film in the 3M™ Scotch® range is needed for demanding carton sealing with hot melt rubber adhesion.
  • Choose 3M Scotch 313 heavy duty quiet tape, 40 micron when a UV-stable acrylic adhesive and quieter unwind are needed alongside high film strength.
  • Choose 3M Scotch 3739 heavy duty tape, 35 micron when a lighter film at the same hot melt rubber adhesive specification is sufficient.

Product FAQs

Why choose a 50 micron film when most carton sealing tapes are 28 to 35 micron?

Greater film thickness means greater resistance to splitting under load, tearing at sharp board edges and puncturing during multi-stage freight handling. On standard cartons in a controlled environment a 28 micron tape is adequate, but the 50 micron 3M™ 375e is the right choice when the board quality is variable, handling is rough or the carton seam is subject to repeated stress in transit.

What is the difference between hot melt rubber adhesive and acrylic adhesive on polypropylene tape?

Hot melt rubber adhesive grips immediately and firmly on contact; it suits fast packing operations where immediate bond strength is needed as soon as the tape touches the board. Acrylic adhesive has lower initial tack but builds to a comparable bond strength over time, unwinds more quietly and is UV-stable. It suits environments where noise, UV exposure or long-term bond quality under light matter more than instant grab.
