3M™ vinyl tape is designed for medium duty carton sealing where the seal must stay intact through long storage. The 35 micron PVC backing resists embrittlement, moisture and chemical contact, so cartons held for months still open cleanly. This PVC backing also allows for low noise dispensing, making it ideal for any work environment. A natural rubber adhesive bonds under contact pressure, giving instant grab on corrugated. Available in brown or transparent, 48mm width on 66m rolls, up to 30kg weight capacity.

Where does 3M™ vinyl tape work best?
It covers medium duty carton sealing below 30kg where resistance to moisture and chemicals over long storage periods is required.
- Sealing cartons that will be held in storage for six months or longer before despatch.
- Packing or customer facing environments where low noise dispensing is beneficial or required due to loud noises being disruptive.
- Packing environments with cleaning chemicals, oils or moisture near the bench, where 3M™ vinyl tape outlasts polypropylene.
- Medium duty box sealing on cartons weighing up to 30kg.
Not suitable for
- Cartons over 30kg: this tape is only suitable for cartons under 30kg, use a reinforced filament alternative for cartons exceeding 30kg.
- Recyclable packaging programmes: PVC backing is not recyclable, use self-adhesive paper tape.
- Hand-application without a dispenser: this tape requires a dispenser to cut cleanly.
How to use
This 3M™ vinyl tape uses a rubber adhesive which grips instantly but bonds under contact pressure, constant pressure must be applied along seam to ensure a seal that will not life.
- Check surface condition: wipe flaps clean of dust, fibre and moisture. The adhesive grabs on contact; debris prevents full contact and weakens the bond.
- Load a dispenser: fit the 76mm core roll into a pistol grip tape dispenser. This tape is dispenser-applied; do not tear by hand.
- Apply at room temperature: store between 15°C to 25°C and above 65% humidity affects shelf life.
- Run a continuous strip: lay an unbroken length along the centre seam with 50mm overlap onto each end flap.
- Press the seam: run a thumb or roller along the seam once. The pressure-sensitive bond reaches full strength on contact.

Can this 3M™ tape be teared by hand?
No. This tape is dispenser only and requires a pistol grip or bench dispenser to cut cleanly. The PVC backing does not tear evenly by hand. Other 3M™ Scotch grades are hand-tearable; this specific 35-micron vinyl is not.
Is this PVC tape recyclable?
No. The PVC backing is not accepted in kerbside paper recycling with the corrugated carton and is not part of film collection streams. For a kerbside-recyclable carton seal, a paper-backed tape is required instead.
How long does the seal last on a sealed carton?
The PVC backing and natural rubber adhesive resist embrittlement better than polypropylene tape, so seals stay intact through extended storage. Roll shelf life from manufacture is 12 months, stored at 15°C to 25°C and no more than 65% humidity.
