Great value tough reinforced tape
RAJA Polypropylene Mono Filament Tape 90 Micron is a glass filament tape for heavy carton reinforcement, strapping and bundling where load stress acts in a single direction. The polypropylene backing carries glass fibres running lengthways down the tape, which is what prevents tearing across the width under sustained tension. Hot melt rubber adhesive bonds immediately on contact with paper, board and stretch film. Available in 25mm and 48mm widths on 50m rolls, it handles cartons over 30kg and performs from 15°C to 60°C.
A dispenser or knife is required as the glass fibre reinforcement makes this tape impossible to tear by hand.
What is mono filament tape best for?
It’s the right choice when load stress is consistently lengthways, such as bundling parallel items, strapping cartons along their length, or stabilising pallet loads where lateral stress isn’t a concern.
- Bundling and strapping items where tension acts along the length of the tape.
- Reinforcing carton seams on lighter export loads where bi-directional stress isn’t expected.
- Light pallet stabilisation over stretch wrap where loads are consistent and well-stacked.
- Sealing and reinforcing cartons over 30kg in ambient conditions at 15°C or above.
Not for
- Bi-directional load stress: where cartons could burst or split in both directions, use a cross woven alternative instead.
- Hand-tear applications: glass fibre reinforcement makes this tape uncuttable by hand; a dispenser with a blade or a knife is required. Use polypropylene packaging tape where hand-tearability is needed.
- Below 15°C: hot melt rubber adhesive loses tack in cold environments; do not apply below this threshold.
- UV-exposed outdoor applications: this tape is not UV resistant.
How to use
Glass filament tape uses a hot melt rubber adhesive that bonds on contact, but surface temperature and cleanliness determine long-term hold under tension.
- Check temperature: Apply at 15°C or above. Below this threshold, hot melt rubber adhesive loses tack; bonds applied in the cold may release when the tape warms up under load.
- Load a dispenser with a blade: This tape cannot be hand-torn. Use a dispenser fitted with a blade or cut with a knife. A standard pistol grip dispenser with a 76mm core is sufficient for most applications.
- Apply with firm, consistent tension: Run the tape along the seam or bundle under even tension. Uneven tension creates weak points that can split at the glass fibre lines.
- Press the full length firmly: Run a finger along the tape after application to ensure full contact across the width. Partial adhesion is the most common cause of failure under sustained load.
- Store correctly: Keep rolls at 15–25°C with humidity below 65%. Shelf life is 12 months from manufacture. Store away from heat sources as hot melt rubber adhesive degrades above 25°C.

Choose the right tape
Right for lengthways load stress and bundling. If load stress is bi-directional, a heavier carton grade, or a premium specification is needed, a sibling grade is the better fit.
- Choose this glass filament tape when bundling or strapping applications involve consistent lengthways tension and bi-directional stress is not a factor.
- Choose RAJA cross woven filament tape when cartons are heavy-load export consignments where stress direction is unpredictable or bi-directional.
- Choose 3M Scotch cross weave filament tape 8959 when a 3M specification is required or an 18-month shelf life is needed.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between mono filament and cross weave filament tape?
Mono filament fibres run lengthways only, resisting lengthways tension but not lateral bursting; choose cross woven filament tape when load stress is unpredictable or acts in both directions.
What is fibreglass filament adhesive tape?
Fibreglass filament tape is tape which has been reinforced with fibreglass filaments to ensure it can secure loads of more than 30kg.
Why can’t this fibreglass filament tape be torn by hand?
Glass fibres running through the PP backing are stronger than the film itself, making the tape impossible to tear across its width by hand. A dispenser or knife is required.
Can mono filament tape be used for pallet stabilisation?
Yes, for light pallet stabilisation over stretch wrap where loads are evenly stacked and lengthways tension is sufficient. Use cross woven where lateral forces are also a risk.
What is the minimum temperature for applying this filament reinforced tape?
15°C. Below this, hot melt rubber adhesive loses initial tack and bonds may release under load once the tape warms up.
Which width should I use, 25mm or 48mm?
25mm suits narrow bundling runs; 48mm gives more surface contact for carton seam reinforcement. Both are 90 micron film thickness / 110 micron total thickness.
