Secure, Durable, and Eco-Responsible Carton Sealing

Reinforced Gummed Paper Tape 125 gsm is a water-activated tape designed for heavy cartons over 30kg, export shipments, and high-security despatch where burst resistance and tamper evidence are required. The 125gsm Kraft paper backing is reinforced with glass fibres; when the starch-based adhesive is water-activated and applied, it penetrates the board fibres and creates a permanent bond that tears the carton surface if tampered with. Supplied as a single 70mm x 100m roll on a 38mm core, it performs from -10°C to 40°C.

A water-activated dispenser is required. Brown Kraft finish. Supplied in cases of 6 rolls. Sold in packs, priced per roll.

What is reinforced gummed paper tape best for?

It's the right choice when standard 70gsm gummed alternative isn't strong enough, such as cartons over 30kg, export loads under handling stress and high-value shipments where burst resistance and tamper evidence are non-negotiable.

  • Sealing heavy cartons over 30kg where standard gummed or polypropylene tape would fail under load.
  • Export and long-distance transit where cartons are subject to stacking pressure and multiple handling stages.
  • High-security despatch of valuable or sensitive shipments where any tampering must be immediately visible.
  • Cold-chain and refrigerated environments down to -10°C, where standard pressure-sensitive adhesive tapes lose tack.
  • e-commerce, warehousing and shipping operations running a water-activated dispenser that require a step up in carton integrity.

Not for

  • Standard cartons under 20kg: 70gsm gummed alternative is sufficient and more cost-effective for everyday sealing.
  • Above 40°C: starch adhesive softens in high heat; do not use near heated drying equipment or in high-temperature processes.
  • Application without a water-activated dispenser: the adhesive must be fully and evenly moistened; under-moistened tape bonds weakly and is a common cause of seal failure.

How to use

Full, even moistening of the adhesive face is critical as under-moistened sections won't bond into the board and the seal will fail at those points under load.

  • Load a 38mm-core dispenser: This tape has a 38mm core so confirm your dispenser accepts this size before loading. Use a water-activated dispenser that moistens, measures and cuts in one action. An electronic water activated tape dispenser is recommended for high throughput operations.
  • Moisten evenly: Check the dispenser water level before each packing run and ensure the full adhesive face is moistened. For manual application without a dispenser, use a wet sponge or cloth across the full width.
  • Apply immediately: Place the moistened tape on the carton flap within a few seconds; the starch adhesive penetrates the board fibres as it dries to create a permanent, fibre-bonded seal.
  • Press firmly along the full length: Apply firm pressure across the full tape width, paying particular attention to flap edges where partial contact is most common and where heavy cartons will place the greatest load.
  • Store correctly: Keep rolls cool, dry and out of direct sunlight at 15–25°C below 65% humidity; shelf life is 6 months from manufacture.

Choose the right tape

Right for heavy or high-security cartons where burst resistance is the priority. For lighter loads where kerbside recyclability is confirmed, the 70gsm grade is the cost-effective alternative.

  • Choose this reinforced gummed paper tape when cartons exceed 30kg, burst resistance is required, or high-security tamper-evident sealing is needed.
  • Choose 70gsm gummed paper tape when cartons are under 20kg and confirmed kerbside recyclability is a requirement.
  • Choose polypropylene packaging tape when a WAT dispenser is not available and tamper evidence is not required.

Frequently asked questions

How does reinforced gummed tape differ from standard gummed paper tape?

The 125gsm Kraft paper is reinforced with glass fibres, which dramatically increases burst resistance. Standard 70gsm tape holds under 20kg; this grade holds over 30kg and resists splitting under stacking pressure.

Why is this tape tamper-evident?

The activated starch adhesive bonds into the board fibres rather than sitting on the surface. Any attempt to remove or lift the tape tears the carton surface, making interference immediately visible.

What dispenser is recommended for this reinforced gummed tape?

This tape has a 38mm core, so a water-activated dispenser that accepts a 38mm core is required. Check your dispenser specification before loading, as the more common 76mm-core dispensers won't fit.

Can this tape be applied with a sponge instead of a dispenser?

Yes, moisten the adhesive face fully with a wet sponge or cloth, then apply immediately. This is only recommended for low-volume packing.

Can this reinforced gummed tape be used in cold chain or refrigerated environments?

Yes, the minimum hold is -10°C, which covers most refrigerated and chilled despatch conditions where pressure-sensitive tapes lose tack on cold board surfaces.

Is this tape suitable for e-commerce carton sealing?

Yes, particularly for higher-value or heavier e-commerce parcels. The tamper-evident bond and burst resistance make it well suited to fulfilment operations where carton integrity during transit is a customer experience concern.

Our product advice

The most effective tape on pure Kraft and recycled cardboard: the adhesive penetrates instantly into the cardboard fibres and ensures optimal and very-long lasting adhesion.

RESISTANT: in all conditions of transport and storage it is sensitive to variations in temperature and humidity.

VERSATILE: suitable for all types of packaging (single, double, or triple flute, overlapping or joined flaps.

AESTHETICALLY PLEASING: it blends with the cardboard for a natural look and feel.

RECYCLABLE: the standard gummed tape can be recycled with the cardboard box. Paper backing coated with a water and starch based vegetable glue.

SECURE AND TAMPER-PROOF: tearing off the tape results in the visible destruction of the cardboard.
