Achieve strong, clean, and invisible mounting on uneven surfaces-without screws, nails, or industrial-strength
3M foam tape for interior mounting, signage and display assembly where a double-sided tape with gap-filling foam construction is needed but the industrial strength of VHB tape isn’t required. The white polyurethane foam core carries acrylic adhesive on both faces, conforming to slightly uneven surfaces and providing vertical support with resistance to UV, humidity and chemicals. This 3M double sided foam tape operates from 10°C to 100°C but can peak 193°C. Measures 19mm wide and 1.6mm thick on 13.7m rolls and shelf life is 24 months from manufacture.
Sold as a single roll.
Where does 3M foam tape work best?
This 3M adhesive foam tape is the right choice for mounting and display applications where the foam construction provides gap-filling contact and long-lasting vertical hold without screws or nails, and where the VHB industrial grade would be excessive for the load.
- Interior signage and POS display mounting where a foam construction provides firm vertical support over time without damaging the substrate surface.
- Fixing decorative elements, trim and badges to furniture, fixtures and vehicles where the foam conforms to slightly uneven surfaces and the wide temperature range covers both cold storage and warm interior environments.
- Mounting mirrors and lightweight panels where access for fixing screws is restricted and a clean, invisible fixing is preferred.
- Outdoor applications down to 10°C where the foam tape must remain flexible and maintain its bond in cold conditions that would cause standard double-sided tapes to stiffen and lose contact.
Not suitable for
- High-load structural bonding or mechanical fastener replacement: for industrial-strength bonding use the double-sided foam tape 4910 alternative which is engineered for structural load-bearing applications.
- Carton sealing: for box sealing use polypropylene packaging tape or paper packaging tape.
How to use
Polyurethane foam tape bonds permanently once the liners are removed and full pressure is applied; clean surfaces and careful positioning before contact are essential as repositioning isn’t possible after bonding.
- Clean both surfaces: wipe both bonding surfaces with isopropyl alcohol and allow to dry; grease, dust or release agent on either surface will create a weak interface that fails before the adhesive itself.
- Apply the tape to the first surface: peel the liner from one face of the tape and press firmly onto the first surface; the foam conforms to slight surface irregularities under pressure, so run a firm thumb or roller along the tape to ensure full contact.
- Position before bonding the second face: hold the assembly in its final position before peeling the second liner; once contact is made the bond is permanent and the foam will tear before releasing cleanly from either surface.
- Press firmly across the full area: apply even pressure across the entire bonded surface; the acrylic adhesive builds its rated bond strength over 24 to 72 hours, so avoid placing the assembly under its intended load immediately after application.
- Store correctly: store at 15–25°C, maximum 65% relative humidity. Shelf life is 24 months from manufacture.

Choose the right tape
- Choose this 3M foam tape for interior mounting, display assembly and decorative fixing applications in hot or cold conditions where foam construction and long-term vertical support are needed.
- Choose 3M VHB double-sided foam tape 4910 when structural load bearing, mechanical fastener replacement or watertight sealing is required.
Product FAQs
What is the difference between this 3M mounting tape and the 3M VHB tape?
Both use a polyurethane or acrylic foam core with acrylic adhesive. VHB tape is an industrial-grade construction designed to replace mechanical fasteners and carry structural loads; this 4016 foam tape is a general-purpose mounting grade for interior display, signage and decorative fixing where the load requirements are lighter and structural performance is not needed.
Why is the roll only 13.7m compared to most tapes which are 33m or longer?
Foam tape has a much greater total thickness than film or paper alternatives; the same roll weight and diameter produces a much shorter length. The 13.7m format is appropriate for the application context: mounting and display work typically uses short lengths per application rather than continuous long runs.
Can this tape be used on textured or uneven surfaces?
Yes; the foam core conforms to minor surface irregularities under pressure, which is one of the key advantages over film-based double-sided tapes. On heavily textured or very rough surfaces, bond strength will be lower than on smooth surfaces; test on a sample area before committing to a production installation.
