Tough and quiet

Heavy duty packing tape in 35 micron polypropylene film with an acrylic adhesive that unwinds quietly from the dispenser. The RAJA heavy duty low noise polypropylene packaging tape is rated for cartons over 30kg and is designed for high-throughput industrial packing lines where both load strength and quiet application are required. UV resistant once applied. Available in brown and clear, in 48mm and 75mm widths, 66m and 100m roll lengths on a 76mm core.

Heavy duty packing tape in 35 micron polypropylene with acrylic adhesive for quiet application. 55 microns total thickness, rated for cartons over 30kg, UV resistant once applied. Available in brown and clear, two widths, two roll lengths.

Best for

  • Industrial and high-throughput packing lines sealing heavy cartons over 30kg where noise must be controlled. The 35 micron film and acrylic adhesive provide the load strength needed for heavy cartons while maintaining the quiet unwinding characteristic of the low noise range. Operations that upgraded from standard low noise tape as carton weights increased do not need to accept louder application.
  • Multi-station warehouse environments where cumulative tape noise across heavy packing lines is a concern. On industrial lines running multiple dispensers simultaneously, hot melt tape at scale generates significant ambient noise. The heavy duty low noise grade removes this across all stations without any reduction in seal strength or weight rating.
  • The 75mm width for large double-wall cartons and industrial base seams. The 75mm width provides the seam coverage needed for larger carton formats on heavy product lines, reducing the risk of the tape bridging across flute peaks on thick corrugated board.
  • The 100m roll for high-volume lines where frequent roll changes reduce throughput. The 100m roll reduces roll change frequency on busy industrial lines. Both the 66m and 100m rolls use the same 76mm core and fit all standard dispensers.
  • Operations stepping up from standard low noise tape (PDT01868) as carton weights increase. The heavy duty low noise grade uses the same acrylic adhesive chemistry as the standard low noise grade, so the quiet application characteristic is preserved. The step up is in film gauge and weight capacity only.

Not for

  • Cartons consistently below 20kg. For lighter carton operations where quiet application is needed, the standard low noise grade (PDT01868) is sufficient and more cost-effective. The heavier 35 micron film is unnecessary for loads below 20kg.
  • Applications requiring the fastest possible initial bond. Acrylic adhesive takes 15 to 30 seconds to develop full peel strength. On very fast industrial lines where heavy cartons are moved immediately after sealing, allow adequate dwell time before stacking.
  • Operations where kerbside recyclability is a requirement. Polypropylene film cannot be recycled in paper or corrugated streams. Use self-adhesive reinforced paper tape for operations where cartons must be recyclable without tape removal.
  • Hand-tear applications where no dispenser is available. The tape is not hand-tearable. A 76mm-core tape dispenser is required for clean cutting on a heavy carton line.

Key features

Acrylic adhesive — quiet unwinding at heavy duty strength

The low noise characteristic comes from the acrylic adhesive. Standard polypropylene hot melt tape stretches and snaps back against the film as it unwinds, producing a loud ripping sound. Acrylic adhesive releases gradually and quietly from the backing film, regardless of roll speed or dispenser type. On heavy industrial packing lines where multiple dispensers run simultaneously, switching to acrylic adhesive tape eliminates the cumulative noise of hot melt application without any change to seal strength or weight rating. Acrylic adhesive also provides UV resistance once applied, maintaining seal integrity in brightly lit and outdoor storage environments.

35 micron polypropylene film — rated for cartons over 30kg

The 35 micron film is the thickest in the standard polypropylene tape range, providing the tensile strength needed to hold heavy carton seams under transit and stacking load. At 55 microns total thickness, the tape resists the splitting, necking and puncturing at carton edges that thinner grades are susceptible to under heavy loads. The additional film gauge also lays flat across the seams of double-wall and heavy corrugated board, which has a more pronounced surface profile than standard single-wall board.

UV resistant once applied — stable seals in industrial storage

The acrylic adhesive provides UV resistance once the tape is applied and bonded to the board surface. Seals remain intact in brightly lit industrial warehouses, outdoor holding areas and UV-exposed transit environments. Store rolls in sealed original packaging away from direct sunlight before use; UV resistance applies after application, not before.

Two widths and two roll lengths — matched to heavy carton formats

The 48mm width suits standard carton seams on industrial lines. The 75mm width suits larger double-wall carton formats and wide base seams where greater coverage reduces the risk of bridging. The 100m roll length reduces roll change frequency on high-volume lines; the 66m roll suits lower-volume industrial operations. All rolls use a 76mm core compatible with all standard and low noise dispensers.

How to get the best result

Acrylic adhesive on heavy carton seams requires firm pressure and adequate dwell time; the weight of the carton does not substitute for correct application technique.

  1. Check carton surface temperature and cleanliness before applying

Inspect the seam area for dust, moisture and contamination before taping. On heavy cartons, a contaminated surface is a greater risk than on lighter cartons because the adhesive contact area relative to the load is lower. Wipe dusty or damp seams with a dry cloth before applying. Allow cartons that have been stored in cold areas to reach ambient temperature before sealing; acrylic adhesive loses initial tack below 0°C.

  2. Load the roll onto a 76mm-core tape dispenser before starting your shift

Seat the roll on the dispenser spindle with the adhesive side facing the blade. Pull approximately 10cm of tape over the blade and confirm it seats flat without bunching. Use the RAJA low noise tape dispenser (PDT02202) for the quietest possible application at both the unwinding and cutting stages. On heavy carton lines, confirm the dispenser blade is sharp at the start of each shift; a blunt blade leaves frayed tape edges that reduce the bonded area at the seam ends.

  3. Apply in a single continuous pass from the centre seam outward

Start at the centre of the top or bottom seam and draw the dispenser in one continuous pass toward the carton edge, then back to centre and out toward the opposite edge. For cartons over 30kg, run an additional strip of tape across each end panel to close the H-seal fully. The end-panel strips are particularly important on heavy cartons, where the unsupported seam area at the carton corners is under greater load stress during handling and stacking.

  4. Apply firm pressure along the full seal and allow 30 seconds for the bond to develop

Run the heel of your hand or the back of the dispenser blade along the full length of the tape immediately after laying. Acrylic adhesive develops peel strength through sustained contact pressure and takes 15 to 30 seconds to reach full bond strength. On heavy cartons this dwell time is critical; a seal that has not been pressed fully and allowed to set will hold during bench handling but can fail under the impact load of stacking or conveyor movement. Do not place heavy cartons on a conveyor or stack them immediately after sealing.

  5. Store unused rolls correctly and rotate stock to maintain shelf life

Store rolls horizontally in original sealed packaging at 15°C to 25°C with humidity below 65%. Do not store in unheated areas, near external doors or in warm storage areas near heat sources. Shelf life is 12 months from manufacture. Write the delivery date on each case on arrival and rotate stock using a first-in, first-out system. Beyond 12 months, acrylic adhesive degrades and will not develop full bond strength on heavy cartons even under correct application conditions.

Choosing the right polypropylene tape for your operation

This heavy duty packing tape sits at the top of the low noise range. Step down for lighter loads; step across to the 32 micron grade where noise is not a concern.

Choose the standard low noise grade (PDT01868) when:

Cartons are up to 20kg and quiet application is needed. The same acrylic adhesive chemistry, lower film gauge and lower cost per roll make this the correct choice for lighter loads in noise-sensitive environments.

Choose this heavy duty packing tape (PDT01547) when:

Cartons are over 30kg and quiet application must be maintained. The 35 micron film provides the load strength for heavy industrial cartons while the acrylic adhesive keeps unwinding noise to a minimum. This is the correct choice for operations that have outgrown the standard low noise grade on weight but cannot accept the noise of hot melt tape.

Choose the 32 micron heavy duty grade (PDT00449) when:

Cartons are between 20kg and 30kg and noise is not a concern. The natural rubber adhesive on the 32 micron grade provides faster initial grab and bonds more quickly on contact than acrylic, making it the right choice for fast lines where dwell time is limited and noise is acceptable.

Choose self-adhesive reinforced paper tape when:

The operation requires kerbside recyclable packaging on heavy cartons. Self-adhesive reinforced paper tape is rated for cartons over 30kg and is recyclable with the box without tape removal.

Frequently asked questions

What is heavy duty packing tape?

RAJA heavy duty packing tape (PDT01547) is a 35 micron polypropylene film tape with an acrylic adhesive that unwinds quietly from the dispenser. At 55 microns total thickness, it is rated for cartons over 30kg and is designed for high-throughput industrial packing lines where both load strength and quiet application are required. Available in brown and clear, in 48mm and 75mm widths, 66m and 100m roll lengths on a 76mm core.

What is the difference between heavy duty low noise tape and standard low noise tape?

The heavy duty low noise grade (PDT01547) uses a 35 micron film, has a 55 micron total thickness, and is rated for cartons over 30kg. The standard low noise grade (PDT01868) uses a 28 micron film, has a 46 micron total thickness, and is rated for cartons up to 20kg. Both use an acrylic adhesive for quiet unwinding. The heavy duty grade is the correct choice where load capacity needs to increase but quiet application must be maintained.

What makes this tape low noise?

The low noise characteristic comes from the acrylic adhesive. Standard polypropylene tape uses a hot melt adhesive that stretches and snaps back against the film as it unwinds, creating a loud ripping sound. Acrylic adhesive releases from the backing film gradually and quietly. This applies whether the tape is used with a standard dispenser or the RAJA low noise tape dispenser (PDT02202).

Can heavy duty low noise tape be recycled?

Polypropylene tape cannot be recycled in paper or cardboard streams. The polypropylene film must be removed from corrugated board before the board is recycled. Polypropylene tape requires specialist plastic film collection; it cannot go in household kerbside recycling. For operations where kerbside recyclability is required, use self-adhesive reinforced paper tape, which is recyclable with the box.

Does heavy duty low noise tape work with a standard tape gun?

Yes. All rolls are wound on a 76mm core, which fits all standard pistol-grip and bench-mounted tape dispensers. Use the RAJA low noise tape dispenser (PDT02202) for the quietest possible application at both the unwinding and cutting stages.

What weight of carton can heavy duty low noise tape seal?

Heavy duty low noise tape is rated for cartons over 30kg. For cartons up to 20kg where quiet application is needed, use the standard low noise grade (PDT01868). For cartons between 20kg and 30kg where noise is not a concern, the 32 micron heavy duty grade (PDT00449) is an option.

Why is my heavy duty low noise tape lifting or not bonding?

Acrylic adhesive requires a clean, dry surface and firm pressure along the full seal length to develop its bond. It takes 15 to 30 seconds to reach full peel strength after application. Applying to dusty, damp or cold board, or failing to press the tape down after laying, are the most common causes of failure. Do not move or stack sealed cartons immediately; allow the bond to develop first.

How should I store heavy duty low noise tape rolls?

Store rolls horizontally in original sealed packaging at 15°C to 25°C with humidity below 65%. Shelf life is 12 months from manufacture. Do not store in unheated areas or near external doors. Rotate stock using a first-in, first-out system and do not use rolls beyond the shelf life date.
