Precisely applies a uniform, smudge-free adhesive film

3M 969 adhesive transfer tape is the high-tack grade in the 3M Scotch ATG range, for bonding and assembly applications where the multipurpose 924 grade lacks the peel strength needed on textured, flexible or difficult surfaces. The acrylic adhesive is coated onto a paper liner; when applied, it transfers cleanly onto the surface with no carrier film remaining in the joint. Resistant to heat up to 80°C and to chemical and solvent exposure. Available in 12mm and 19mm widths on 33m rolls on a 25mm core. Shelf life is 18 months from manufacture.

Sold in packs of 12 rolls, priced per roll.

Where does 3M 969 adhesive transfer tape work best?

It’s 3M 969 tape is the right choice when the general-purpose 924 grade is not strong enough; the higher-tack formulation delivers greater peel strength on surfaces where a standard acrylic adhesive achieves only partial contact.

  • POS display and signage assembly on plastic and foam board where standard-tack acrylic would peel away under its own weight.
  • Bonding decorative elements and trim pieces on flexible surfaces such as fabric, leather and vinyl where the adhesive needs to maintain contact through repeated flexing.
  • Model-making and product assembly where small, bonded areas need reliable peel resistance and clean edges with no carrier film visible in the joint.
  • Operations already using the 700ATG type dispenser that need a high-tack option alongside the standard 924 multipurpose grade without changing dispenser or core size.

Not suitable for

  • Above 80°C: applications above this threshold require a specialist high-temperature adhesive. (Can be used with caution up to 120°C for short periods only).
  • Carton sealing: 3M 969 tape is a precision bonding product; for carton sealing use polypropylene packaging tape.
  • Structural or load-bearing bonding: for applications requiring gap-filling and vibration absorption use 3M VHB double-sided foam tape.

How to use

High-tack acrylic adhesive bonds aggressively and permanently on most clean surfaces; positioning must be accurate before contact because repositioning after initial bonding is not practical on most surfaces.

  1. Load the 700ATG dispenser: fit the 25mm core roll into the 3M Scotch 700ATG dispenser; the 25mm core is specific to the ATG system and is not compatible with standard 76mm dispensers.
  2. Prepare both surfaces: clean both surfaces thoroughly. High-tack acrylic will still bond to surface contamination, producing a weaker bond that appears correct until load is applied.
  3. Apply precisely: run the dispenser along the surface in a single controlled stroke; the paper liner feeds back through the dispenser as the adhesive transfers. Position accurately before lowering onto the bonding surface as immediate repositioning is not possible with high-tack acrylic.
  4. Press across the full bonded area: apply firm, even pressure across the entire bond area; acrylic builds full strength over the first 24 to 72 hours, so avoid stressing the joint under load immediately after assembly.
  5. Store correctly: store at 15–25°C, maximum 65% relative humidity, out of direct sunlight. Shelf life is 18 months from manufacture.

Product FAQs

What does high-tack mean on a 3M 969 adhesive transfer tape and why does it matter?

High tack refers to the adhesive’s aggressive initial grab on contact; the 969 formulation has greater peel resistance than the multipurpose 924 grade from the moment it touches the surface. This matters on textured, low energy or flexible surfaces where standard-tack acrylic makes only partial contact and the bond fails early under peel or shear load.

Can this tape be repositioned after application?

No; high-tack acrylic bonds aggressively on contact and isn’t designed to be repositioned. On most surfaces any attempt to lift and reposition the bonded piece will damage the surface or the adhesive layer. Accurate positioning before contact is essential.

Does the paper liner on the 969 make it any different to use than the polyester liner on the 924?

The liner material does not affect how the adhesive transfers or the bond performance; both feed through the 700ATG dispenser in the same way. The paper liner on the 969 is slightly more rigid than the polyester liner on the 924, which some users find provides better feedback through the dispenser at slow application speeds.
