High-performance all-surface bonding that stays strong in any environment
3M™ 9087 tape is a double-sided PVC tape with modified acrylic adhesive on both faces, for bonding, splicing and mounting applications where flexibility, a wide temperature range and strong immediate adhesion are all required. The white PVC backing conforms to curved and flexible surfaces, operates from -40°C to 85°C, and is UV-stable. Available in 25mm width on 50m rolls on a 76mm core. Requires a dispenser to cut. Shelf life is 12 months from manufacture.
Sold in packs, priced per roll.
Where does 3M™ 9087 double sided tape work best?
It suits bonding and splicing applications that span a wide temperature range, where the flexible PVC backing must conform to non-flat or curved surfaces and modified acrylic adhesive provides immediate grip on contact.
- Bonding a range of materials such as wood, metals, glass, rolls of film, foil, paper and flexible packaging materials in production and temperature fluctuating environments where the tape must hold under tension.
- Bonding flexible materials such as rubber, vinyl and fabric where a conformable PVC backing accommodates movement and the -40°C minimum covers cold storage environments.
- Mounting and assembly in transport, automotive and outdoor applications where UV stability, moisture resistance and the wide temperature range from -40°C to 85°C are all required.
- Securing components to curved or irregular surfaces where the conformable PVC film achieves full contact that a stiffer foam or film tape cannot.
Not suitable for
- Above 85°C: for applications above this temperature a specialist high-temperature adhesive is required.
- High-load structural bonding or gap-filling: for load-bearing structural bonding use a double-sided foam alternative, which provides gap-filling and far greater structural bond strength.
How to use
This 3M™ 9087 double sided tape uses a modified acrylic adhesive which grips on first contact; accurate positioning is important as the bond forms immediately and the tape isn’t designed to be repositioned once full contact is made.
Clean both surfaces: wipe both bonding surfaces to remove grease, dust and moisture; acrylic adhesive bonds to surface contamination as readily as to the substrate, creating a weaker interface.
Use a dispenser: load the 76mm core roll into a suitable multipurpose adhesive transfer tape dispenser.
Apply to the first surface: peel the liner from one face and press firmly onto the first substrate; the PVC backing will conform to the surface under firm pressure.
Position accurately before bonding: peel the second liner and position accurately before contact; acrylic adhesive grips immediately and won’t release cleanly.
Store correctly: store at 15–25°C, maximum 65% relative humidity. Shelf life is 12 months from manufacture; please take care to rotate stock carefully.

Product FAQs
What makes 3M™ 9087 tape suitable for use down to -40°C?
Both the PVC backing and the adhesive remain flexible and maintain their bonding properties at low temperatures. Standard rubber adhesives can become brittle and lose tack below approximately -10°C; the formulation on the 9087 is specifically designed to remain functional at extreme low temperatures, making it suited to cold-store and freezer applications.
Why choose a PVC backing rather than polyester or foam for double-sided tape?
PVC film is more adaptable than polyester at equivalent thickness; it bends and conforms to curved or irregular surfaces where a stiffer polyester film would bridge across the surface and produce partial contact. This conformability is what makes the 9087 the right choice for splicing flexible substrates and bonding to non-flat surfaces.
