Ultra-tough reinforced tape
Cross weave filament tape is one of the most effective options for heavy cartons, export consignments and pallet stabilisation where load stress can act in more than one direction. The polypropylene backing of this filament packing tape is reinforced with glass fibres running both lengthways and across the tape, which is what prevents tearing or bursting under sustained load. Hot melt rubber adhesive bonds immediately on contact with paper, board and polyethylene stretch wrap. RAJA Polypropylene Filament Tape 110 Micron is available in 25mm, 48mm and 75mm widths on 50m rolls. It handles cartons over 30kg and performs from 15°C to 60°C.
A dispenser or knife is required as glass fibre reinforcement means you can’t tear by hand.
What is cross weave filament tape best for?
It’s the right choice when load stress is bi-directional, such as carton seams that could split lengthways or across, pallet loads that shift in multiple axes during transit, and export consignments that need maximum reinforcement.
- Sealing and reinforcing heavy cartons over 30kg where standard polypropylene tape would not hold under load.
- Pallet stabilisation applied over stretch wrap as the hot melt rubber adhesive bonds directly to polyethylene film.
- Export consignments and long-distance transit where carton integrity must hold through multiple handling stages.
- Strapping and banding heavy goods where tensile strength in both directions is needed.
- Corner and seam reinforcement on cartons that will be stacked or subjected to compression loads.
Not for
- Applications requiring hand-tear: due to the glass fibre reinforcement, you cannot tear by hand; a dispenser with a blade or a knife is required. Use polypropylene packaging tape where hand-tearability is needed.
- Light and medium carton sealing where standard tape is sufficient.
- Below 15°C: hot melt rubber adhesive may lose initial tack in cold environments.
- UV-exposed outdoor applications: This tape is not resistant to UV light.
How to use
Hot melt rubber adhesive bonds instantly on contact, but surface temperature and cleanliness determine how well it holds under load.
- Check temperature: Apply at 15°C or above. Below this threshold, the hot melt rubber adhesive loses tack.
- Load a heavy-duty dispenser: This tape cannot be hand torn. Use a dispenser fitted with a blade or cut with a knife.
- Seal the full carton seam: Apply with firm, continuous pressure along the entire seam length, with a 50mm overlap onto each carton face. Partial coverage is the most common cause of seal failure under load.
- For pallet stabilisation, apply over stretch wrap: Run the tape horizontally around the pallet at mid-height, directly over the stretch wrap. Do not apply to the product or inner packaging.
- Store correctly: Keep rolls at 15–25°C with humidity below 65%. Shelf life is 12 months from manufacture. Hot melt rubber adhesive degrades faster above 25°C, so avoid storage near heat sources.

Choose the right tape
Right for bi-directional load stress and heavy cartons. If load stress is lengthways only, or the requirement is for a premium branded specification, a sibling grade is the better fit.
- Choose this cross weave filament tape when cartons exceed 30kg, load stress is bi-directional, or the application is pallet stabilisation over stretch wrap.
- Choose RAJA mono filament tape when load stress is lengthways only and applications include bundling or light pallet stabilisation.
- Choose 3M Scotch cross weave filament tape when a 3M specification is required or wider width options (up to 75mm) at 145 micron are needed.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between cross weave and monofilament tape?
Cross weave filament tape has glass fibres in both directions, resisting stress in both axes; monofilament fibres run lengthways only, so it handles lengthways tension but not lateral bursting.
Can this filament reinforced tape be used for pallet stabilisation?
Yes. Apply horizontally over stretch wrap at mid-pallet height, the hot melt rubber adhesive bonds directly to polyethylene film without a primer or dwell period.
Why does this filament packing tape need a dispenser?
The bi-directional glass fibre grid that makes this tape suitable for loads over 30kg also makes it impossible to hand-tear safely, so a blade dispenser or knife is required.
What is the difference between RAJA cross woven filament tape and 3M Scotch cross weave tape?
RAJA cross weave is 140 micron total; the 3M alternative is 145 micron with an 18-month shelf life. RAJA is the volume grade, 3M suits premium or branded specification requirements.
What is filament strapping tape used for that standard polypropylene tape can’t handle?
Filament strapping tape is used when the carton needs structural reinforcement, such as overweight cartons, export loads under stacking pressure, or pallet stabilisation, where polypropylene film would split under sustained load.
Is this tape suitable for use in cold chain or refrigerated environments?
The minimum temperature hold is 15°C, so this tape isn’t suitable for cold-chain application.
