Heavy duty clear packing tape in 32 micron polypropylene film with a natural rubber adhesive and 48 microns total thickness. The RAJA heavy duty polypropylene packaging tape seals corrugated cartons up to 30kg and is designed for high-throughput warehouse lines, industrial fulfilment and heavy carton applications. Natural rubber adhesive grips faster on contact than acrylic or hot melt Available in brown and clear, 48mm and 75mm widths, 66m per roll on a 76mm core.

A heavy duty polypropylene packing tape with natural rubber adhesive on a 32 micron film. 48 microns total thickness, rated for cartons up to 30kg, application temperature range 0°C to 65°C. Available in brown and clear, two widths.

    Best for

    • High-throughput warehouse and industrial fulfilment lines sealing cartons up to 30kg. Natural rubber adhesive grips on contact without a dwell period, allowing packing staff to move immediately to the next carton. The 32 micron film resists splitting and necking under the higher sustained load of heavier cartons in ways that thinner grades cannot.
    • Warm despatch environments and seasonal temperature variation up to 65°C. The maximum application temperature of 65°C is higher than the standard 60°C of other grades in the range, covering warm warehouse and despatch conditions.
    • Mixed carton operations where weights vary between 20kg and 30kg. Where a packing line processes a range of carton weights and some regularly approach 30kg, the 32 micron grade removes the need to switch between tape grades. A single grade rated to 30kg covers the full weight range of most mixed operations.
    • Double-wall and heavy corrugated board where a stronger initial grab is needed. Natural rubber adhesive develops higher peel strength on corrugated board than synthetic hot melt or acrylic. On thicker board, where the surface is less uniform, natural rubber maintains contact across the seam more effectively.
    • The 75mm width for large carton base seams and double-wall export cartons. The 75mm width provides additional seam coverage on larger carton formats, reducing the risk of a narrow seal bridging across flute peaks on heavy board.

    Not for

    • Cartons over 30kg. The 32 micron film and natural rubber adhesive are not rated for sustained load above 30kg. Use RAJA heavy duty low noise polypropylene tape (PDT01547) or self-adhesive reinforced paper tape (PDT523581), rated for cartons over 30kg.
    • Operations where UV resistance is required. The 32 micron grade does not provide UV resistance. For outdoor storage, export holding yards or UV-exposed environments, use the 28 micron grade (PDT01423), which is UV resistant once applied.
    • Operations where kerbside recyclability is a requirement. Polypropylene film cannot be recycled in paper or corrugated streams. Use self-adhesive paper tape where cartons must be recyclable without tape removal.
    • Hand-tear applications where no dispenser is available. The tape is not hand-tearable. A 76mm-core tape dispenser is required.

    Key features

Natural rubber adhesive — fast initial grab and high peel strength

Natural rubber is a pressure-sensitive adhesive that develops its bond through immediate surface contact rather than chemical curing. On corrugated board, natural rubber wets the surface faster than both acrylic and synthetic hot melt, producing a higher initial peel strength within the first seconds of application. This makes it the correct adhesive for heavy carton sealing where the loaded carton is moved quickly after sealing, Natural rubber also performs more consistently on textured and recycled board surfaces where contact area is lower.

32 micron polypropylene film — rated for cartons up to 30kg

The 32 micron film provides higher tensile strength than the 28 micron and 25 micron economy grades, resisting the splitting and necking that occurs under the higher sustained loads of heavier cartons in transit. At 48 microns total thickness — the thickest in the standard polypropylene range — the tape lays flat across double-wall corrugated seams without bridging. The additional film thickness also contributes to the tape's resistance to puncturing at carton edges under load, which is a common failure point for thinner grades on heavy cartons.

    Application range 0°C to 65°C

The natural rubber adhesive retains initial tack down to 0°C at the point of application. The upper limit of 65°C is higher than the standard 60°C of other grades in the range, covering warm despatch environments and seasonal temperature variation in un-air-conditioned warehouses.

76mm core — compatible with all standard dispensers

All rolls are wound on a 76mm core, the standard diameter for all RAJA polypropylene tape dispensers. No equipment change is needed when using this grade alongside others in the range. The tape is not hand-tearable; a dispenser is required for clean cutting on a heavy carton line.

How to get the best result

Natural rubber adhesive grips fast but still requires a clean surface and firm pressure for maximum bond strength; most failures on the 32 micron grade are surface contamination issues, not film failures.

    1. Check carton surface temperature and cleanliness before applying

Inspect the seam area for dust, moisture, silicone and oil before taping. Natural rubber adhesive still requires a clean, dry surface for full bond strength. Wipe the seam area with a dry cloth before applying if any moisture or dust is present.

    2. Load the roll onto a 76mm-core tape dispenser before starting your shift

Seat the roll on the dispenser spindle with the adhesive side facing the blade. Pull approximately 10cm of tape over the blade and confirm it seats flat without bunching. Natural rubber adhesive has higher initial tack than acrylic; the tape will grab the dispenser blade more aggressively than lower-tack grades. Confirm the blade is sharp and the roll spins freely before starting a heavy carton line, as a stiff roll increases the risk of tape stretching during application.

    3. Apply in a single continuous pass from the centre seam outward

Start at the centre of the top or bottom seam and draw the dispenser in one continuous pass toward the carton edge, then back to centre and out to the opposite edge. For cartons over 20kg, run an additional strip of tape across each end panel to close the H-seal fully. This end-panel strip is particularly important on double-wall cartons, where the heavier board creates a larger unsupported seam area at the carton corners.

    4. Apply firm blade pressure along the full seal immediately after laying

Run the back of the dispenser blade, or the heel of your hand, along the full length of the tape immediately after it is laid. Natural rubber develops most of its peel strength within the first few seconds of contact; pressing down increases the surface area in contact with the board and converts the initial grab into a full bond. On heavy cartons being moved immediately after sealing, this step is particularly important — a seal that has not been pressed fully will hold during slow bench handling but can fail under the impact load of stacking or conveyor movement.

    5. Store unused rolls correctly and rotate stock to maintain shelf life

Store rolls horizontally in original sealed packaging at 15°C to 25°C with humidity below 50%. Natural rubber adhesive is more sensitive to heat and UV exposure before application than acrylic or hot melt; do not store near heat sources, in direct sunlight or in warm storage areas. Shelf life is 12 months from manufacture. Write the delivery date on each case on arrival and rotate using a first-in, first-out system.

Choosing the right polypropylene tape for your operation

The 32 micron grade is the heavy duty option in the standard RAJA polypropylene range, rated for cartons up to 30kg. Step down for lighter loads; step up for cartons above 30kg.

Choose the standard 28 micron grade (PDT01423) when:

Cartons are consistently below 20kg and the operation runs at ambient warehouse temperature above 0°C. The hot melt adhesive on the 28 micron grade is UV resistant once applied, making it the better choice for outdoor storage and export holding. Three width options and 132m roll lengths suit higher-volume lines.

Choose this tape (32 micron, PDT00449) when:

Cartons are between 20kg and 30kg, the board quality is variable and a stronger initial grab is needed. The natural rubber adhesive provides higher peel strength than hot melt or acrylic. This is the correct grade for industrial fulfilment and heavy mixed carton operations.

Choose the heavy duty low noise grade (PDT01547) when:

Cartons are above 30kg, or a quieter application is needed in a confined or open-plan packing area. The heavy duty low noise grade uses an acrylic adhesive and is rated for cartons above 30kg.

    Choose self-adhesive paper tape when:

The operation requires kerbside recyclable packaging. For very heavy cartons above 30kg where recyclability is also a requirement, use self-adhesive reinforced paper tape (PDT523581), rated for cartons over 30kg and recyclable with the box.

    Frequently asked questions

What is heavy duty clear packing tape?

RAJA heavy duty clear packing tape (PDT00449) is a 32 micron polypropylene film tape with a natural rubber adhesive, at 48 microns total thickness. It seals corrugated cartons up to 30kg and is designed for industrial fulfilment, high-throughput warehouse lines and heavy carton applications. Available in brown and clear, in 48mm and 75mm widths, 66m per roll on a 76mm core.

What is the difference between the 32 micron and 28 micron polypropylene tape?

The 32 micron grade (PDT00449) uses a natural rubber adhesive, has a 48 micron total thickness, and is rated for cartons up to 30kg. The 28 micron grade (PDT01423) uses a synthetic hot melt adhesive, has a 46 micron total thickness, and is rated for cartons up to 20kg. Natural rubber adhesive grips faster on contact and develops higher peel strength on corrugated board than hot melt. The 32 micron grade is also rated at 0°C minimum application temperature.

Can heavy duty polypropylene tape be recycled?

Polypropylene tape cannot be recycled in paper or cardboard streams. The polypropylene film must be removed from corrugated board before the board is recycled. Polypropylene tape requires specialist plastic film collection; it cannot go in household kerbside recycling. For operations where kerbside recyclability is required, use self-adhesive paper tape, which is recyclable with the box.

Does heavy duty packing tape work with a standard tape gun?

Yes. All rolls are wound on a 76mm core, which fits all standard pistol-grip and bench-mounted tape dispensers. The tape is not hand-tearable and requires a dispenser to cut cleanly.

What weight of carton can this tape seal?

The 32 micron grade is rated for cartons up to 30kg. For cartons above 30kg, use RAJA heavy duty low noise polypropylene tape (PDT01547) or self-adhesive reinforced paper tape (PDT523581), rated for cartons over 30kg. For cartons consistently below 20kg, the standard 28 micron grade (PDT01423) is sufficient.

Can I use this tape in a cold warehouse or loading bay?

The minimum application temperature for PDT00449 is 0°C. Cartons that have been in a chilled or cold environment should be allowed to reach ambient temperature before sealing. If you regularly seal in sub-zero environments, speak to our team about the right tape for your application.

Why is my heavy duty packing tape lifting or failing at the edges?

Natural rubber adhesive grips fast on contact but still requires firm pressure along the full seal length for maximum peel strength. Edge lifting on the 32 micron grade is most commonly caused by a contaminated carton surface — dust, moisture or silicone from high-recycled-content board — or by failing to press the tape down immediately after laying. Persistent failure usually indicates a surface or application issue rather than a film failure.

How should I store heavy duty polypropylene tape rolls?

Store rolls horizontally in original sealed packaging at 15°C to 25°C with humidity below 50%. Shelf life is 12 months from manufacture. Do not store near heat sources or in direct sunlight; natural rubber adhesive degrades faster than acrylic or hot melt when exposed to heat and UV before application. Rotate stock using a first-in, first-out system.
