Natural rubber is a pressure-sensitive adhesive that develops its bond through immediate surface contact rather than chemical curing. On corrugated board, natural rubber wets the surface faster than both acrylic and synthetic hot melt, producing a higher initial peel strength within the first seconds of application. This makes it the correct adhesive for heavy carton sealing where the loaded carton is moved quickly after sealing, Natural rubber also performs more consistently on textured and recycled board surfaces where contact area is lower.
The 32 micron film provides higher tensile strength than the 28 micron and 25 micron economy grades, resisting the splitting and necking that occurs under the higher sustained loads of heavier cartons in transit. At 48 microns total thickness — the thickest in the standard polypropylene range — the tape lays flat across double-wall corrugated seams without bridging. The additional film thickness also contributes to the tape's resistance to puncturing at carton edges under load, which is a common failure point for thinner grades on heavy cartons.
The natural rubber adhesive retains initial tack down to 0°C at the point of application. The upper limit of 65°C is higher than the standard 60°C of other grades in the range, covering warm despatch environments and seasonal temperature variation in un-air-conditioned warehouses.
All rolls are wound on a 76mm core, the standard diameter for all RAJA polypropylene tape dispensers. No equipment change is needed when using this grade alongside others in the range. The tape is not hand-tearable; a dispenser is required for clean cutting on a heavy carton line.
Natural rubber adhesive grips fast but still requires a clean surface and firm pressure for maximum bond strength; most failures on the 32 micron grade are surface contamination issues, not film failures.
Inspect the seam area for dust, moisture, silicone and oil before taping. Natural rubber adhesive still requires a clean, dry surface for full bond strength. Wipe the seam area with a dry cloth before applying if any moisture or dust is present.
Seat the roll on the dispenser spindle with the adhesive side facing the blade. Pull approximately 10cm of tape over the blade and confirm it seats flat without bunching. Natural rubber adhesive has higher initial tack than acrylic; the tape will grab the dispenser blade more aggressively than lower-tack grades. Confirm the blade is sharp and the roll spins freely before starting a heavy carton line, as a stiff roll increases the risk of tape stretching during application.
Start at the centre of the top or bottom seam and draw the dispenser in one continuous pass toward the carton edge, then back to centre and out to the opposite edge. For cartons over 20kg, run an additional strip of tape across each end panel to close the H-seal fully. This end-panel strip is particularly important on double-wall cartons, where the heavier board creates a larger unsupported seam area at the carton corners.
Run the back of the dispenser blade, or the heel of your hand, along the full length of the tape immediately after it is laid. Natural rubber develops most of its peel strength within the first few seconds of contact; pressing down increases the surface area in contact with the board and converts the initial grab into a full bond. On heavy cartons being moved immediately after sealing, this step is particularly important — a seal that has not been pressed fully will hold during slow bench handling but can fail under the impact load of stacking or conveyor movement.
Store rolls horizontally in original sealed packaging at 15°C to 25°C with humidity below 50%. Natural rubber adhesive is more sensitive to heat and UV exposure before application than acrylic or hot melt; do not store near heat sources, in direct sunlight or in warm storage areas. Shelf life is 12 months from manufacture. Write the delivery date on each case on arrival and rotate using a first-in, first-out system.
The 32 micron grade is the heavy duty option in the standard RAJA polypropylene range, rated for cartons up to 30kg. Step down for lighter loads; step up for cartons above 30kg.
Cartons are consistently below 20kg and the operation runs at ambient warehouse temperature above 0°C. The hot melt adhesive on the 28 micron grade is UV resistant once applied, making it the better choice for outdoor storage and export holding. Three width options and 132m roll lengths suit higher-volume lines.
Cartons are between 20kg and 30kg, the board quality is variable and a stronger initial grab is needed. The natural rubber adhesive provides higher peel strength than hot melt or acrylic. This is the correct grade for industrial fulfilment and heavy mixed carton operations.
Cartons are above 30kg, or a quieter application is needed in a confined or open-plan packing area. The heavy duty low noise grade uses an acrylic adhesive and is rated for cartons above 30kg.
The operation requires kerbside recyclable packaging. For very heavy cartons above 30kg where recyclability is also a requirement, use self-adhesive reinforced paper tape (PDT523581), rated for cartons over 30kg and recyclable with the box.

Natural rubber adhesive grips faster on contact and develops higher peel strength on corrugated board than hot melt. The 32 micron grade is also rated at 0°C minimum application temperature.
Polypropylene tape cannot be recycled in paper or cardboard streams. The polypropylene film must be removed from corrugated board before the board is recycled. Polypropylene tape requires specialist plastic film collection; it cannot go in household kerbside recycling. For operations where kerbside recyclability is required, use self-adhesive paper tape, which is recyclable with the box.
Yes. All rolls are wound on a 76mm core, which fits all standard pistol-grip and bench-mounted tape dispensers. The tape is not hand-tearable and requires a dispenser to cut cleanly.
The 32 micron grade is rated for cartons up to 30kg. For cartons above 30kg, use RAJA heavy duty low noise polypropylene tape (PDT01547) or self-adhesive reinforced paper tape (PDT523581), rated for cartons over 30kg. For cartons consistently below 20kg, the standard 28 micron grade (PDT01423) is sufficient.
The minimum application temperature for PDT00449 is 0°C. Cartons that have been in a chilled or cold environment should be allowed to reach ambient temperature before sealing. If you regularly seal in sub-zero environments, speak to our team about the right tape for your application.
