Choosing the correct stretch film for your pallet depends on a number of factors including:
Shape of the pallet:
Awkwardly-shaped angles and inconsistently-shaped pallet loads will determine the type of film to choose. Irregularly-shaped loads are best served by cast stretch wrap, blown stretch wrap, and pre-stretched film, for example, due to the flexible, adaptable nature of the stretch. Alternatively, a simple paper pallet wrap solution made from Kraft paper is ideal for pallets with no overhang or protruding elements.
Weight of the pallet:
The heavier the pallet load, the thicker the film will need to be. For stabilising heavier loads, blown stretch wrap with the ability to stretch both widthways and lengthways with an adhesive coating on both sides is the safest and most reliable option.
Use type:
Consider the length of time your pallets will be in transportation and storage. For standard, uniform pallets, paper pallet wrap can be a simple option. What thickness of film do I choose?
The thickness of stretch film to choose will depend on the weight of your pallet.
For lighter pallet loads of up to 200 kg: 45 gsm is a suitable option.
For pallet loads of up to 500 kg: between 14-17 microns is recommended.
For pallet loads of up to 800 kg: between 20-23 microns is recommended.
For the heaviest pallets loads of up to 1000 kg: between 23-35 microns is the best choice.
Manual or automatic film dispensing?
Deciding between manual or automatic film dispensing largely depends on your output. If you are wrapping less than 15 pallets per day, hand-held stretch wrap dispensers should be more than suitable for your needs.
