Heavy Duty Tape

Heavy duty tape

Heavy duty tape seals the boxes ordinary tape can't hold, such as heavy cartons, bulky loads and anything that takes a knock in transit. It pairs a stronger adhesive with a tougher backing, so seams stay shut from the warehouse to the customer's door.

This range covers strong packing tape, parcel tape, double-sided tape, paper tape and reinforced filament tape, in grades rated by carton weight. Here you'll find the right tape for the job, whether you pack a handful of orders a day or run a full packing line.

What makes a tape heavy duty?

A tape counts as heavy duty when its adhesive and backing are designed to hold sealed cartons under real load.

Most strong box tape uses polypropylene, vinyl or paper backing with either a hot melt or acrylic adhesive. Hot melt grips fast and holds firm on cardboard, which suits high-volume packing. Strong acrylic tape keeps its bond over time and copes better with temperature swings; the recycled low noise polypropylene grade pairs a water-based acrylic with recycled film. Our hot melt vs acrylic adhesive guide explains how each one performs.

Backing matters too, even with heavy duty tape. If you're weighing up paper against plastic, our comparison of paper-backed and polypropylene tape shows where each works best.

Strong tape for boxes and parcels

For everyday sealing, RAJA heavy duty polypropylene tape at 32 micron handles most cartons with a strong, instant bond. It's a heavy-duty packing tape that holds without double-taping.

When you ship parcels in volume, strong parcel tape keeps seams closed through sorting and handling. For overfilled cartons, an extra strong parcel tape or heavy duty parcel tape with a thicker adhesive layer holds where standard tape gives way. A packing tape strong enough for the job cuts down on failed deliveries.

For the heaviest cartons over 30kg, the strongest packing tape is reinforced filament. RAJA cross woven filament tape runs glass fibres in both directions, so it resists splitting under load and suits pallet stabilisation and export work. The reinforcement means you'll need a tape dispenser or blade, as it won't tear by hand.

Paper and gummed heavy duty tape

Prefer a paper backing for heavy loads? RAJA self-adhesive reinforced paper tape at 125 gsm carries glass fibre reinforcement and seals cartons up to 75kg.

For tamper-evident security, reinforced gummed paper tape is water-activated: the adhesive bonds into the carton fibres for a burst-resistant seal that shows if a box has been opened. It's a strong choice for high-value or heavy export cartons.

Double-sided, vinyl and specialist tapes

Not every job is sealing a carton. Heavy duty double sided adhesive tape bonds surfaces without visible fixings, which suits mounting displays, fixing fittings and assembly. Browse our double-sided and transfer tape for grades that hold on awkward surfaces.

For heavy or awkward items that need a flexible, tear-resistant tape, RAJA heavy duty vinyl tape at 58 micron grips firmly and resists bursting. A strong masking tape suits lighter masking and lining jobs, and strong white tape marks and seals in one pass.

How to choose the right heavy duty tape

Match the tape to the carton weight. Up to 20kg, a standard polypropylene tape is enough. From 20kg to 35kg, step up to a heavy duty polypropylene grade. Over 30kg, choose reinforced filament or 125 gsm paper. If you seal by hand all day, a dispenser pays for itself in speed.
