Hot Melt Tape
Hot melt tape
Hot melt tape is an adhesive tape coated with a hot melt glue that bonds on contact, sealing cartons fast and firmly. It's a popular self adhesive tape for high-volume packing, as it grips cardboard instantly without water or heat.
This range covers hot melt and acrylic grades in polypropylene and paper, from everyday sealing to strong adhesive tape for heavy cartons.
What is hot melt tape?
Hot melt tape, sometimes written hotmelt tape, is a self-adhesive tape that uses a hot melt adhesive to bond instantly on contact. It grips fast and holds firm on cardboard, which makes it a solid choice for high-volume packing.
Our hot melt vs acrylic adhesive guide explains how hot melt performs compared to alternatives, and our comparison of paper-backed and polypropylene tape covers backing choices.
Types of hot melt and self adhesive tape
Most self adhesive tapes here use a polypropylene or paper backing. For everyday sealing, RAJA polypropylene tape at 28 micron handles cartons up to 20kg, and is an affordable adhesive tape for general packing. Acrylic grades are also available for quieter unwind and longer storage.
For a paper backing, self adhesive paper tape with a hot melt adhesive tears by hand and seals light to medium cartons. This paper adhesive tape draws 40% of its raw materials from natural resources. The hot melt adhesive tape bonds on contact, so there's no water or activation needed.
Strong and industrial hot melt tape
For heavier loads, choose a strong adhesive tape with reinforcement. RAJA reinforced paper tape at 125 gsm carries glass fibre for cartons up to 75kg, while mono filament tape is an industrial adhesive tape for heavy bundling. Both use a hot melt rubber glue, making it a rubber adhesive tape that bonds instantly to board and film.
Colours, cloth and dispensers
Need to mark as you seal? White adhesive tape and white adhesive vinyl let you colour-code or cover printing in one pass. For bundling and repair, self adhesive fabric tape, which is a cloth-backed fabric adhesive tape, tears by hand and conforms to awkward shapes.
Pair any roll with an adhesive tape dispenser to speed up sealing and cut waste.
How to choose hot melt tape
Match the tape to the job. For light to medium cartons, a 28 micron polypropylene or 80 gsm paper grade is enough. For heavy or export loads, step up to reinforced paper or filament. If you pack in volume, an acrylic grade gives a quieter, longer-lasting bond.
